Smart Medicine

Do you have a driver's licence
for the smartest machine in the universe?

At the physical level alone, our human body has about 100 trillion factories (cells) that work very hard to keep us alive, healthy, and well.

Microbiologist Richard Goubeaux (PhD) says that we are not able to count the self-regulating or self-healing control loops in just one of these factories - we can only try to categorize them, and count the categories!

This mega-complex of 100 trillion factories, is serviced by 100 trillion delicate specialist workers (the microbiome; microbiomic medicine).

Local order (health) is maintained by quadrillions of distributed self-regulating or self-healing control loops. Global order (health) is maintained by a high volume data-highway (spinal cord) and a supercomputer (brain).

An orchestra is a fair analogy. However, only one third of the orchestra is visible or tangible - the body/brain. Two thirds of the orchestra is invisible and intangible - the mind and spirit. The orchestra also operates in a given environment - social. All together: body-mind-spirit-social.

Perhaps you can begin to see the limitations of (low level) tangible medicine, and the need for (high level) intangible medicine...

Sometimes we are not smart

The tangible and intangible all form part of "the doctor within" that most of us barely know exists.

It gets worse.

For whatever reason, we try our damnedest to break "the doctor within". When we make progress it is called dis-ease. When we finally succeed it is called death. The less successful we have been, the easier and quicker we can return to health and wellness.

We avoid a slew of essential natural medicines, while gluttonously and relentlessly consuming toxins that afflict all health and wellness domains: mind-body-spirit-social.

'Think different' is the only way to better outcomes.

Think different

"The body can heal itself. It can do so because it has a healing system. At every level of biological organization, from DNA up, mechanisms of self-diagnosis, self-repair, and regeneration exist in us. Medicine that takes advantage of this innate healing is more effective than medicine that simply suppresses symptoms.” (Dr Andrew Weil, Spontaneous Healing)

“Nature itself is the best physician”, Hippocrates

"It's supposed to be a secret, but I'll tell you anyway. We doctors do nothing. We only help. And encourage the doctor within." Dr Albert Schweitzer

Nature heals

Our amazing self-healing body only needs about 7 hours per week of moderate exercise to stay in good shape – call it 7/168 if you like.

Talking is medicine, laughter is medicine, food is medicine, water is medicine, fresh air is medicine, breathing is medicine, community is medicine, socialising is medicine, sex is medicine, intimacy is medicine, affection is medicine, touch is medicine, reading is medicine, writing is medicine, thinking is medicine, meditation is medicine, (unconditional) love is medicine, movement is medicine, walking is medicine, stretching is medicine, dancing is medicine, exercise is medicine, travel is medicine, holidaying is medicine, music is medicine, art is medicine, meaning is medicine, purpose is medicine, identity is medicine, engagement is medicine, creativity is medicine, contribution is medicine, giving is medicine...

Spirituality heals

Spirituality is also medicine and includes powerful healing elements like vastly expanded consciousness, connection, belonging, relationship, a natural change of heart and mind, forgiveness, gratitude, awe, generosity of spirit, abundant mindedness, egolessness, egalitarianism, unity, equity, equality, introspection, deep inner peace, stability, freedom, moderation, re-calibration, autonomy, self-determination, acceptance, hope...

Spirituality helps us meet our core human needs like no other. These are "certainty, variety, significance, love and connection, growth, and
contribution" (Anthony Robbins).

Without spirituality, we seek to meet these pressing needs in maladaptive ways. This creates toxic workplaces, fractured relationships, mental illness, and worse.

The mind-spirit link

In 1977 Psychiatrist George Engel voiced "The need for a new medical model". His seminal holistic body-mind-social model has evolved to include the human spirit: body-mind-spirit-social.

Mental illness often is an addiction to unhelpful thinking patterns.

Furthermore, Psychologist Harold E. Doweiko tells us: "addiction is a disease of the spirit".

Thankfully, the self-healing mechanisms of the mind and spirit are specifically designed to help us beat our addiction to unhelpful thinking patterns. This begins when we stop obstructing them.

Being willing to stop consuming our favourite enfeebling pneumatoxins is enormously helpful:

fear, shame, guilt, condemnation, judgement, self-righteousness, (lawless) legalism, (immoral) moralism, sexism, racism, supremacist gnosticism, dogma, sectarianism, denominationalism, clericalism, (mechanistic and reductionist) materialism, creedalism, literalism, fundamentalism, doctrinal ethnocentrism, tribalism, endarkenment, intellectualism (imagine an army of enthusiastic newly minted soldiers with zero oversight), and more...

Pneumatherapy, based on the non-religious un-redacted liberating gospel message of peace, grace and unconditional love is the ultimate healer of an afflicted spirit. Nothing safeguards, uplifts and enlightens humanity more – by design. Nothing impedes the message more than religion.
